Conroe, TX – October 4th, 2018 – Congratulations to Scrap Yard Internationals 18U athlete Aaliyah Garcia for verbally committing Georgia Southern! Aaliyah is a 2019 pitcher and first baseman who currently attends Angleton High School. She boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA and is involved with numerous extracurricular activities, such as PALs (Peer Assistance and Leadership), National Honor Society, and Leo Club. Garcia has racked up numerous awards throughout her high school career, most notably District Offensive Player of the Year (2016), All-County Newcomer of the Year (2016), and All-County Pitcher of the Year (2017, 2018).
When asked about committing to Georgia Southern, Aaliyah said, “Committing to Georgia Southern University was definitely a dream come true! I visited the college and immediately realized that that was where I belonged. The town and campus were beautiful, the coaches were awesome, and I enjoyed the team. I’m so happy to call Statesboro home, and I can’t wait for my new journey to start. Hail Southern!”
Connie May, head coach of the SI 18U squad, could not be prouder of Aaliyah’s news. When asked about Aaliyah’s decision to attend Georgia Southern, Connie said, “We are proud to have picked up Aaliyah last year and to be able to help her achieve her dream. She’s a quality young lady and an asset to our program!”
Aaliyah’s parents, Melissa and Juan Garcia, were thrilled to announce the big news. Her parents said, “Searching for a college for Aaliyah to attend was a bit stressful at times. After visiting Georgia Southern, and meeting the coaches and administrators, there was no doubt in our minds that Aaliyah would be in great hands. We feel she will grow as a player and student at Georgia Southern University. As parents, we couldn't ask for a better opportunity for our daughter. We are truly blessed. Go Eagles!”
Congratulations Aaliyah and the Garcia family!
